Install the mobile app with a QR code

Put each person’s extension on their Android phone: one code installs the app, a second signs them in — nobody types a password.

1What you need

The right size

The app is on Medium and Large: 2 handsets per extension on Medium, 3 on Large.

An Android phone

Android 8.0 or later, with the camera working to scan the codes.

An extension

The person must already have one — see Extensions and numbering.

Two codes, about two minutes. Nobody types a server name or a password.

2Install the app

  1. In Filantis, click the Android icon in the top bar to open Mobile App.
  2. Under 1. Install the app, the person points their phone's camera at the QR code. It opens the install page — no account needed.
  3. They download the app and open the file. Android asks once to allow installing apps from the browser: they allow it and tap Install.

The app comes straight from your Filantis server, not from an app store, so you always get the version that matches your system. The Mobile App page shows whether the app is on your server, and its size.

3Sign a person in

  1. On Mobile App, under 2. Sign a person in, choose the Person.
  2. Add a Label if they will have more than one phone — “Priya's Samsung”.
  3. Tick Also email the link to them if they are not in front of you.
  4. Click Create sign-in code. They open the app and scan the code shown.

Treat the code like a key. It signs its holder in as that person and is shown only once. If it is lost or expires, simply create another.

4What the app does

Calls

Rings with the desk phone and the browser; answers on the lock screen like any call.

Video

Face-to-face calls between colleagues, on plans with video calling.

Voicemail

New messages counted on the icon, and played in the app.

Colleagues

Who is available, away or on a call, before you ring them.

Calls between extensions are free, even from abroad — the app uses only a little data. It was built to wake the phone rarely, so it keeps the battery going through a working day.

5Signed-in handsets

The foot of the Mobile App page lists every phone signed in: its extension, the device, Status — Active, Waiting to sign in or Revoked — and when it was last seen.

Click Revoke when a phone is lost or someone leaves. The phone is signed out at once and the extension's app password changes. The person's other phones reconnect by themselves; their desk phone, browser dial pad and Filantis password are not affected.

6The connection address

Phones connect to Filantis on port 5061 over TLS, using the Hostname in the Connection address box on the Mobile App page. Check it once before signing anyone in:

  • It must be a name, such as aravali.filantis.com — an IP address will not work on mobile data.
  • It must be reachable from outside the office and match your server's security certificate.
  • If it is empty, phones are given the address the page was opened on — fine in the cloud, not when you opened it on the office network.

7Questions

Is there an iPhone app?

Not yet. Staff with an iPhone can take calls on a desk phone, or on the dial pad inside Filantis on a computer.

What about a PC at the front desk?

The same page offers the Windows app. The person signs in with the server address and their own Filantis username and password, and it keeps working through short internet cuts.

Does the app work on mobile data?

Yes. Calls use about as much data as other calling apps.

Can one person have two phones?

Yes, up to your plan's handsets per extension. Create a sign-in code for each phone, with a label so you can tell them apart.

The sign-in code says it has expired.

Codes last 72 hours and work once. Create a new one — nothing else needs to change.
